I AM a self-taught photographer…wait, I did take classes and I was a photographer’s assistant, so technically i am not. I do remember “my” first camera, it was a Canon AE-1. I say “my” because it was really my fathers but as soon as I got my hands on it, I never gave it back to him and just started taking photos of everything. Back then I was into tennis, anything that had to do with martial arts and cars, so I took photos of anything that had to do with tennis, martial arts and cars. One of my favorite photographers is Udo Spreitzenbarth…images are amazing!
Atlanta, GA is when I started doing professional photography. I was a software engineer/web web developer at WebMD.com, and one of the graphic designers told me that they needed someone to design a web site for where she worked part-time, so she asked if I was interested. I of course said yes, and while creating the web site, I needed photographs taken of the clothing/accessories being sold, so I somehow double-dipped and also charged the business for photography services and thus my first paid gig as a photographer (I think I charged them $100 for taking photos of more than 100+ items). The models I used to wear the outfits were the girls that worked in the store who were all very easy on the eyes. After we finished the shoot, a few of them asked if I would take photos of them “modeling”, and I was like whatever. And that’s where it all kind of took off….
In photography, glamour and playful images as well as lifestyle/editorial are styles I love shooting, but am not limited to those. I’m always learning my craft and always try to learn new things and always buying new gear.
In regards to web design, I’ve done so many web sites it’s hard to count, and consulted on a ton of others, as well as worked for many corporations such as National Education Association Member Benefits, GEOMET Technologies, Pepsi Bottling, Philips Investment Resources, The Heath Network just to name a few. You can also view more clients I’ve worked with on my old website (done in active script) by clicking here.
Whether its taking photographs of a couple’s special day, working with a new model on their portfolio, or covering a UFC event, I’m always amazed at the many different ways to capture moments.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my web site. ~Michael M Perez
P.S. In case you couldn’t tell, I love dogs!
